If there was a pill proven to:
- Improve mood
- Improve sleep
- Boost energy levels
- Reduce anxiety
- Reduce osteoarthritis pain
- Lower the risk of dementia, heart disease, diabetes, stroke, and cancer
Would you take it?
Such a pill doesn’t exist — but exercise offers all these benefits and more!
Why Exercise?
Exercise can be taken by people of all ages, including those with long-term health problems. It’s often said:
“If there was a pill that could have the same benefits as exercise, it would be prescribed for everyone.”
Recently, I’ve made small changes to increase my own daily activity and noticed more energy and clearer thinking.

Common Concerns
If you’re not used to exercising, starting can be tricky. Some common questions I hear are:
- Is it safe for me to exercise with my health condition?
- I’m in pain — will exercise make it worse?
- I’m too busy for exercise.
- What kind of exercise should I do?
Where to Start?
Even a few minutes of movement each day can help. Here are some resources to guide you safely and effectively:
- Moving Medicine — Exercise recommendations based on age and health conditions.
Patient info finder – Moving Medicine - NHS Get Active — Guides and support to help you get moving.
Get active – Better Health NHS - We Are Undefeatable — Take a 2-minute quiz to find free exercise programmes tailored to your needs.
